Dr Gabriel Ellul graduated as a Medical Doctor at the University of Malta in 2015 and after obtaining his medical license in 2017, he started his specialist training in psychiatry.

He became a Member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists in the UK in 2019. He also read for a Masters Degree in Bioethics which he completed in 2020 and was awarded the Deans Award and the Dissertation Award for his work. He concluded his psychiatric specialisation training in Malta in October 2023.

During his psychiatric training, he also trained at the Maudsley Hospital in London, where he worked with the Trauma and Dissociation Service, the only NHS specialist service offering treatment for people presenting with complex post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and severe dissociative disorders. There he learned about trauma psychiatry and body-based psychotherapy. He maintains a close working relationship with his UK colleagues to this day, contributing to their research, training and clinical work from Malta, and is also a Member of the International Society of Studies on Dissociation and Trauma.

He works within the Mental Health Services in Malta, heads the medical team at Simblija Care Home in Naxxar and offers psychiatric consultancy services to Victim Support Malta. He has been called to provide expert witness in court cases involving alleged child abuse and he is also a visiting lecture on trauma and personality disorders at the University of Malta.

His special interests include childhood trauma, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, Complex PTSD, Borderline Personality Disorder and Dissociative Disorders, including Somatoform and Conversion Disorders.

His research interests include the impact of childhood trauma on personality development, personality disorders and neuroethics.

His practice focuses on accurately diagnosing mental health issues while seeking to understand the underlying psychological causes of mental illness. He is also a Lifespan Integration therapist and seeks to foster a close working relationship with psychologists, counsellors and psychotherapists when supporting mutual clients.
